Notebook Reviews: ALL THE PRESIDENT’S MEN
Alan J. Pakula – 1976
All the President’s Men is a wonderful political thriller from the great Alan J. Pakula. Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman make for a brilliant pairing as Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward, the two Washington Post journalists investigating the Watergate scandal.
William Goldman’s script packs a punch and the whole thing rattles along at an amazing pace. Maybe it’s a little too fast – especially for those who know little of the real-life events. All the President’s Men is great nonetheless and essential viewing for those wanting to know and understand Hollywood filmmaking in the 1970s.
