Woody Allen To Write And Direct A New Half Hour Series For Amazon Prime Instant Video
Woody Allen will write and direct a new half hour series for Amazon. The show, currently titled The Untitled Woody Allen Project will air on Prime Instant Video next year. The plot is currently being kept under wraps and no cast has been announced but it’s only a matter of time before a queue of interesting actors begins to line up.
This is Allen’s first ever television series (or online series if you will) and it’ll be interesting to see how this impacts on Allen’s yearly cinematic output. There’s no denying that this is a major coup for Amazon who recently picked up a Golden Globe for Transparent. Scoring Allen for a series once again shows that long form storytelling is the way of the future and that good writing continues to migrate away from the big screen.
Roy Price, Vice President of Amazon Studios said:
“Woody Allen is a visionary creator who has made some of the greatest films of all-time, and it’s an honour to be working with him on his first television series. From Annie Hall to Blue Jasmine, Woody has been at the creative forefront of American cinema and we couldn’t be more excited to premiere his first TV series exclusively on Prime Instant Video next year.”
Keep an eye on Movies In Focus as this develops.
