With a $16.7 Million US box office debut and an $85 million (and counting) global take, Wonder Woman 1984 has been the biggest hit since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Throw in huge HBO Max viewing numbers (nearly half of the its subscribers viewed the film on its first day) and it seems that the Patty Jenkins/Gal Gadot sequel has also been the hit of the Christmas season.
There’s a reason for this – it’s very good – read the Movies In Focus review.
Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that it will fast-track development on the third instalment of the Wonder Woman franchise, which will be written by Patty Jenkins (who is also again attached to direct) and Gal Gadot is also set to return as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman.
The announcement was made by Toby Emmerich, Chairman, Warner Bros. Pictures Group:
“As fans around the world continue to embrace Diana Prince, driving the strong opening weekend performance of Wonder Woman 1984, we are excited to be able continue her story with our real life Wonder Women – Gal and Patty – who will return to conclude the long-planned theatrical trilogy.”
I would expect Wonder Woman 3 around 2023.
