Notebook Reviews: TOUCH OF EVIL

4.5 out of 5 stars

Orson Welles – 1958

Charlton Heston playing a Mexican? The remastered version of the mighty Orson Welles‘ Touch Of Evil is an absolute master-class in style and direction. Welles creates some brilliant atmosphere in the Mexican border-town set thriller.

Welles co-stars alongside the great Charlton Heston and Janet Leigh  – and they all impress. Heston in particular has just the right amount of strength and flawed desperation to sell this dark film noir and Welles is gloriously grotesque.

Without Touch Of Evil we might not have had Tarantino.
