Notebook Reviews: THE MEAN SEASON

4 out of 5 stars

Phillip Borsos – 1985

The Mean Season is a wildly under-rated (and largely forgotten) thriller starring Kurt Russell alongside an impressive supporting cast (Mariel Hemingway, Richard Jordan, Richard Masur, Joey Pantoliano and Andy García).

Phillip Borsos’ film is a tense serial killer thriller which really keeps the audience on the edge of its seat. Set in the humid heat of Miami, The Mean Season has a similar tone to Michael Mann’s Manhunter (released the following year) and both underperformed at the box office despite being great.

Check it out.
