Notebook Reviews: JOURNEY TO THE CENTRE OF THE EARTH

Henry Levin – 1959

4 out of 5 stars

This adaptation of Jules Verne’s Journey to the Centre of the Earth is an exceptional family adventure film. It really hits the spot.

Henry Levin directs with verve, creating a sense of wonder as an on-point  James Mason leads his crew deeper and deeper into the earth’s core.

It features some wonderful Cinemascope visuals and Bernard Herrmann‘s score is next level great – listen-out for the cue that inspired Danny Elfman’s Batman theme!
