Notebook Reviews: ENEMY OF THE STATE
Tony Scott – 1998
Enemy Of The State sees Tony Scott directing Will Smith and Gene Hackman in this hugely entertaining paranoia thriller. Scott shoots with his usual visual fervour, giving this festive action film some incredible energy and a tremendous sense of pace.
Will Smith has never been better than he is as the lawyer on the run from a government conspiracy. He’s perfectly teamed with the great Gene Hackman, who riffs on his turn from Francis Ford Coppola’s 1974 film, The Conversation. Enemy Of The State also features an incredible supporting cast which includes Jon Voight, Gabriel Byrne, Jason Robards and a whole host of others.
Produced by uber-producer Jerry Bruckheimer, Enemy Of The State is great piece of action cinema from the masterful Tony Scott. Highly recommended.
