Michael Mann – 2001
Michael Mann’s Ali is something of a disappointment – it’s a boxing film which lacks punch. It’s great on a visual level – but it’s the story which is lacking (odd considering the real-life drama). It has a great cast though: Will Smith, Jamie Foxx, Jon Voight and Mario Van Peebles.
Mann and company seem to have wanted to cover too much territory in quite a short time and because of that it lacks focus. It’s not bad, but ultimately Ali is a noble failure from the great Michael Mann.
