Behind The Scenes: Nicole Kidman, George Clooney & Mimi Leder On The Set Of THE PEACEMAKER

The Peacemaker opened in cinemas across the United States in September 1997. The Mimi Leder directed thriller was the first live action film from DreamWorks SKG, the then fledgling company founded by Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and David Geffen (hence the SKG).

An action-thriller in the mould of the Jack Ryan films, The Peacemaker stars George Clooney and Nicole Kidman as an army colonel and an nuclear expert tasked with tracking down a rogue Russian nuke on US soil. It’s not a bad thriller – it features a few good action sequences but it ultimately gets bogged down in an overly preachy plot about the horrors of war and the sins of man.

Coming hot on the heels of George Clooney’s disastrous comic book caper Batman & Robin, The Peacemaker opened to less than stellar reviews and mediocre box office – and it again called into question Clooney’s potential star power. He would turn things around with his bankability three years later with The Perfect Storm

Budgeted at $50 million, The Peacemaker grossed $41.2 million at the US box office and $110.4 million worldwide following its release in 1997.
