Notebook Reviews: BAREFOOT IN THE PARK
Gene Saks – 1967.
Robert Redford and Jane Fonda make for a brilliant screen pairing in this enjoyable romantic comedy from director Gene Saks and screenwriter Neil Simon (who adapted his play for the screen). Barefoot In The Park is a hugely entertaining affair and the film is littered with fine moments and witty lines.
Frequent screen collaborators Robert Redford and Jane Fonda are both excellent and they share a wonderful onscreen chemistry – this is the first of four films that they made over the course of 50 years. Barefoot In The Park might feel a little stagey at times and a touch too confined, but that doesn’t stop it from being an exceptionally well-honed comedy.
