The mighty Robert Redford is one of the all-time great movie stars. He’s a politically active star, although one who has spent a lot of time carefully crafting his screen image and a wonderfully rich filmography since he big screen debut in the 1960s.
Redford made seven films with the brilliant Sydney Pollack and he also turned to directing, helming nine films and winning a Best Director Academy Award for his directorial debut Ordinary People. Redford founded the Sundance Institute and The Sundance Film Festival in the 1980s as a way of nurturing independent film and filmmaking.
