Nobody really needs a sequel to Prometheus but a global gross of $430 million means that 20th Century Fox believes there’s an audience for a sequel to the Alien reboot/prequel/spin-off. Ridley Scott has implied that he’s eager to direct the film, and has pencilled–in a January 2016 shoot.
Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender are set to return for the film, which will hopefully improve on Scott’s muddled and dire 2012 film (read the Movies In Focus review). Scott, who is currently promoting his latest movie, The Martain has professed his re-ignited love for the sci-fi genre, stating “I’ve gotten back back into the science fiction thing. I kind of adore it.”
South African director Neill Blomkamp is currently working on a sequel to the Alien franchise that is set to be produced by Scott. Those plans are a vague as what might happen in the Prometheus follow-up but the concept is much more exciting. How all this will work together is anyone’s guess.
