Notebook Reviews: GREMLINS

4 out of 5 stars

Joe Dante – 1984

Joe Dante‘s Gremlins is a film which has held-up incredibly well in the face of time and CGI. Dante’s film opens as a Capraesque comedy before descending into a 1950s-style creature feature. It’s the perfect combination of horror, comedy, sci-fi and fantasy.

There’s much to praise in this Steven Spielberg produced 1984 hit – well rounded characters, great special effects and a wonderful Jerry Goldsmith score. It also features some wonderful movie in-jokes and references (Watch The Skies!) and quirky cameos (Chuck Jones, Harry Carey Jr.).

Gremlins is great fun!
