Famed action auteur, Renny Harlin is set to direct Aaron Eckhart in the new thriller The Bricklayer. Eckhart is an under-appreciated actor, while Harlin is the man who gave us such action classics such as Die Hard 2: Die Harder, The Long Kiss Goodnight and Deep Blue Sea.That’s a killer combination for an action-thriller of this sort.
Here’s the synopsis according to Deadline:
In The Bricklayer, someone is blackmailing the CIA by assassinating foreign journalists and making it look like the agency is responsible. As the world begins to unite against the U.S., the CIA must lure its most brilliant – and rebellious – operative out of retirement, forcing him to confront his checkered past while unraveling an international conspiracy.
Millennium Media is producing alongside Gerard Butler‘s G-Base shingle and filming is set to take place in March 2022 at Millennium’s studios in Nu Boyana studios in Greece and Bulgaria. The project has been kicking around for the last decade or so and Butler was once attached to star.
This is what Renny Harlin had to say about The Bricklayer:
“The Bricklayer screenplay has the rare combination of well-layered characters, intricate plotting and propulsive action. Having spent five years in China, I’m excited to be back making a high-caliber Hollywood action thriller. If there’s something I learned from my three Chinese movies, it is the importance of deeply felt emotion. In Aaron Eckhart I have found a first-class dramatic actor, who also has the physicality and charm to bring this iconic character to life.”
