Prayers Have Been Answered As Pilot For A New Version Of THE SAINT Starts Filming
I’ve been writing about a remake/rebookt/reimagining (delete where applicable) of the classic Roger Moore series, The Saint for years now, but it never seems to get off the ground. However, a new series seems to be one inch closer to becoming a reality. Adam Rayner has snagged the lead of Leslie Charteris’ hero, while geek favourite, Eliza Dushku has also joined the cast of a new pilot which will be directed by Simon West (The Expendables 2) and produced by Moore.
Jesse Alexander wrote the script for the pilot, which according to Deadline, “will follow the exploits of Simon Templar (Rayner), a brilliant criminal who uses his considerable illicit skills as a modern-day Robin Hood as he infuriates local law enforcement and woos Patricia Holm (Dushku), his on-again, off-again romance”.
Not quite sure about the Dushku angle, especially if she is a recurring character in the series – if it makes it that far. Although, the addition of Roger Moore and Ian Dickerson, “an expert on the history of Charteris’ creation” as a creative consultant on the show gives me hope that they will stay true to Charteris’ book series, which is 70 books strong.
The potential show doesn’t yet have a home, but expect that to change if the pilot turns out well. Shooting, which has just started, will take place in Los Angeles, Toronto and London.
More on The Saint as it comes in.
