Notebook Reviews: THE TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE

4 out of 5 stars

John Houston  – 1948.

Written and directed by the great John Huston, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre is a film which rightly regarded as a classic. This tense treasure hunt drama sees Humphrey Bogart, Tim Holt and Walter Huston searching for gold in Mexico. Bogart in particular is excellent as the on-edge gold prospector – what an actor he was! They say greed is good – but you won’t be able tell after watching Bogart’s performance.

The Treasure of The Sierra Madre features some wonderfully executed set pieces and Huston’s fine direction behind the camera means that the film still holds-up incredibly well today. The script has some great lines and there’s plenty of thrills along the way.

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre is a must for film buffs everywhere.
