Notebook Reviews: SWEET HEARTS DANCE
Robert Greenwald – 1988.
Sweet Hearts Dance is a very good family drama with some very fine comedic moments woven throughout. The excellent cast – Don Johnson, Susan Sarandon, Jeff Daniels and Elizabeth Perkins – all deliver great performances, but it’s Johnson’s central role which really impresses. It’s great to see the actor play against type as a family man – it’s a far cry from his well known action turns in Miami Vice and Nash Bridges.
There’s a honest and real quality to Sweet Hearts Dance which really sits well with the film’s relaxed pacing. A wonderful character piece, Sweet Hearts Dance is a little known film which certainly deserves to be seen by a much wider audience.
