Notebook Reviews: MARS ATTACKS!
Tim Burton – 1996
Mars Attacks! is a fantastic Tim Burton directed effort, which is hugely underrated. It doesn’t get enough appreciation.
The cast on display here is out of this world – Jack Nicholson, Pierce Brosnan, Sarah Jessica Parker, Annette Bening, Tom Jones, Martin Short, Danny DeVito, Natalie Portman, Glenn Close, Pam Grier and Michael J. Fox – and they all seem to be having a great time embracing the film’s camp tone. Nicholson and Brosnan are the standouts, but everyone is great. Danny Elfman‘s musical score is nice and kitschy too.
Mars Attacks! would make the perfect double bill with Burton’s Ed Wood.
