Notebook Reviews: HIGH FIDELITY

4 out of 5 stars

Stephen Frears – 2000.

Stephen Frears‘ adaptation of Nick Hornby‘s novel, High Fidelity hits all the right notes. The John Cusack starring rom-com features a killer soundtrack and the story works on just about every level (the film even has a Bruce Springsteen cameo).

Cusack has never been better as the record store owner reeling from a bitter break-up. Cusack delivers on the humour, but there’s real pathos in there too. High Fidelity also includes a real star-making turn from Jack Black  as one of Cusack’s employees.

It might have some sentimentality, but High Fidelity also features the right amount of bitterness to make it work. Worth watching!
