Notebook Reviews: THE PARALLAX VIEW
Alan J. Pakula – 1974
The Parallax View is a wonderful paranoia thriller from the great Alan J. Pakula. This 1974 film is one of the best in the genre and star Warren Beatty is fantastic as the investigative reporter who uncovers a far-reaching political conspiracy. It’s a perfect role for Beatty, one which plays on his looks and his intelligence.
The 1970s saw a massive shift in how movies were made and The Parallax View is a rich and complex piece of filmmaking which tackles political corruption and assassination – the shadow of JFK’s shooting looms large over the film.
A prime slice of 1970s Hollywood filmmaking, The Parallax View is highly recommended.
