Notebook Reviews: BIG FISH
Tim Burton – 2003
Big Fish is a gloriously wondrous piece of filmmaking from director Tim Burton. The fantasy-drama hits the mark in all the right places and the cast is excellent. Albert Finney and Billy Crudup are the standouts here – but everyone excels.
Burton’s film also includes a wonderfully poignant and playful score from composter Danny Elfman and some very impressive visuals from cinematographer Philippe Rousselot.
You could say that Big Fish plays like Forrest Gump meets The Wizard Of Oz – only it doesn’t – it’s incredibly hard to describe this truly enjoyable and totally magical film. Perfection.
