It looks like Michael Keaton will be keeping on the Bat cowl for a little while longer. After a 30 year absence, Keaton has just completed filming a turn as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Andy Muschietti’s The Flash – and now he’s set to reprise the role once more in the new Batgirl movie.
Leslie Grace takes the lead role in the film which sees Barbara Gordon (aka Batgirl), the daughter of Gotham police commissioner Jim Gordon becoming a winged vigilante. J.K. Simmons who played Gordon in Zack Snyder’s controversial Justice League movie will reprise the role in the film which as stars Brendan Fraser as the villainous Firefly.
Keaton played Bruce Wayne/Batman in Tim Burton’s Batman in 1989 and in the 1992 follow-up Batman Returns. He dropped out of 1995’s Batman Forever, when Val Kilmer took over the role for director Joel Schumacher.
Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will direct Batgirl, which will hit HBO Max sometime in 2022.
