Notebook Reviews: AMERICA’S SWEETHEARTS
Joe Roth – 2001
A first-rate cast (Julia Roberts, John Cusack, Billy Crystal, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Hank Azaria, Stanley Tucci, Seth Green, Alan Arkin and Christopher Walken!) head-up this enjoyable, if uninspired romantic comedy. Cusack is the highlight here – closely followed by a great (and much too small) turn from Walken.
America’s Sweethearts works well in the comedy stakes, but it fails at being an Hollywood satire. Considering that it was written by a movie star/ famed Oscars host and directed by a former studio chief, you would expect the film to have a bit more bite.
Fun nonetheless.
