Mel Gibson And Sean Penn Are The PROFESSOR AND THE MADMAN

Movies In Focus favourite Mel Gibson is teaming with Sean Penn for Professor and the Madman. The film is based on the Simon Winchester book about the creation of the Oxford English Dictionary.

Farhad Safinia (writer of Gibson’s Apocalyptco) will write and direct the film which Gibson has been trying to bring to the screen for the last 20 years.  Voltage Pictures will finance the pic which will be produced by Bruce Davey.

According to Deadline:

‘’Gibson will play 19th century professor James Murray, who started to compile the Oxford English Dictionary. Penn will play Dr. W.C. Minor, who contributed thousands of entries to the hugely ambitious literary project but also was an inmate at an asylum for the criminally insane.’’

Sounds like this is one to look out for.

Gibson always has a magnetic screen presence. And for his co-star, if anyone can play a madman who dabbles in dictionary definitions, it’s the person who thought that marrying Madonna and making Shanghai Surprise in the space of a calendar year made perfect sense (that’s Sean Penn if you’re slow at keeping up).

Mel Gibson will soon be seen in Blood Father, while his next directorial effort Hacksaw Ridge opens in November.
