Hot on the news that Mad Max: Fury Road has snagged a release date and the first colour picture of Tom Hardy as the titular hero comes word from the film’s director, George Miller. Miller talked about the film’s troubled production and the chances of seeing original star Mel Gibson in this fourth instalment of the Mad Max franchise.
The Babe and Happy Feet director spoke with the Sydney Morning Herald and he had this to say:
”It’s been a really difficult movie. It’s pretty constant action [on screen] but we’ve had superb stunts and safety crew. We’ve had no significant injuries. One of our top guys was doing a simple manoeuvre and just pulled a tendon in his biceps; that’s one of the worst injuries we’ve had.
It’s a pretty epic chase across the wasteland Our film, luckily after a ridiculous amount of work, is testing extremely well. We’re very happy. There has been a lot of doubt about it, [people saying] ‘it took so long’, but Warners have delayed it until 2015 to go into the top weekend of the year.”
When asked if Mel Gibson would appear in the movie he said – “It would have been nice somehow but, no, it’s not true”
Having said that, he also said that there were no ‘major reshoots’ – just some scenes ‘bookending’ the movie. Might those just be the scenes that feature Mel Gibson?
Mad Max: Fury Road opens in May 2015 Time will tell.
