Director Zack Snyder’s adaptation of Frank Miller’s 300 was a huge success at the box office – and it won a lot of critical acclaim – when it was released back in 2006. Snyder’s film was a stylistic marvel – feeling like a perfect (and incredibly faithful) adaptation of Miller’s 1998 graphic novel. You could argue (probably rightly so) that 300 is Snyder’s best film.
Set in 480 B.C., Miller’s tome and Snyder’s film tells of how King Leonidas of Sparta (Gerard Butler) and his army of 300 men fought the Persians at The Battle of Thermopylae. 300 has quite an impressive cast with a pre Game of Thrones Lena Headey, The Wire‘s Dominic West and the great Michael Fassbender starring alongside Butler.
Budgeted at $65 million, 300 would gross $210 million at the US box office and more that $456 million worldwide.
