Trailer & Poster: AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER
The first teaser trailer and poster for James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water have arrived. Avatar conquered the cinematic landscape back in 2009 – but things have changed since then. The pic grossed more than $2.8 billion at the global box office in a time before the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Cameron’s film remains the highest grossing movie of all-time at the world-wide box office (unadjusted, of course). It’ll score more cash when it gets rereleased in September. But how will the sequel fare?
The original Avatar is okay – but it’s hardly Cameron’s best work (that would be The Terminator). I thought it was great when I saw it in 3D back in 2009 and enjoyed a blu-ray rewatch. However, I watched the film for the first time in years a couple of months ago and found it rather underwhelming.
Avatar: The Way Of Water is the first of four sequels to Cameron’s sci-fi opus which are heading our way (the rest arrive in 2024, 2026 and 2028). This new trailer has amassed a massive 148.6 million views over the course of the last few days.
Will the audience show up to watch it on the big screen? History (and his fans) say that you should never bet against James Cameron – but history has been known to be wrong on occasion.
Avatar: The Way Of Water opens on 16 December, 2022.
The synopsis:
