Trailer: Apple TV+ Seems To Have Missed The Point Of THE MOSQUITO COAST
Paul Theroux’s The Mosquito Coast was already adapted into a great 1986 film by Peter Weir starring Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren and River Phoenix. The film might not have been a hit at the box office, but it delivers as a powerful drama of desperation with one of Harrison Ford’s best performances.
The plot sees a somewhat unhinged family man take his family to live in the jungles of Central America, away from the impending doom of modern life. It’s a tale of paranoia, but one which is mostly imagined.
This new adaptation of Theroux’s novel (starring his nephew Justin Theroux) for Apple TV+ seems to miss the point entirely, turning it into some sort of on-the-run potboiler. Rupert Wyatt directs the seven-part drama.
