The 25th Fantasia Festival To Be A Virtual Event; BRAIN FREEZE Will Open The 2021 Festival
The 2021 Fantasia International Film Festival will see the Canadian genre festival celebrate its 25th edition. As with 2020, this year’s festival is set to be a virtual event with screenings, premieres, panels, and workshops running from 5 August through to 25 August 25, 2021. However, there is also (fingers crossed) the possibility of some physical events being added to the lineup.
The 2020 virtual edition was a huge success, screening to 85000 spectators and amassing a record amount of media coverage, with 475 accredited journalists from around the world (with Movies In Focus amongst them). Last year’s lineup showcased 104 features, a quarter of which were World Premieres, with the majority securing distribution out of the festival. That’s pretty good going.
This year’s Fantasia Fest will kick-off with Julien Knafo’s zombie comedy Brain Freeze. The film tells the tale of an environmental disaster that leads to a fast-spreading virus ravaging a wealthy gated community off the island of Montreal.
