Return Of The King: Austin Butler & Tom Hanks In The Trailer For Baz Luhrmann’s ELVIS

Movies In Focus is no fan of Baz Luhrmann‘s cinematic style. It’s too in your face, too OTT. Therefore I’m not particularly looking forward to Elvis, his new movie starring Austin Butler and Tom Hanks. Taking away my dislike for Luhrmann’s aesthetic, I think that Butler is a  bad, bad, bad casting choice as Elvis. He just doesn’t have the look or the swagger.

Do they still have time to do that Luke Skywalker face replacement from The Book Of Boba Fett so they they can get a young Kurt Russell to replace Austin Butler as Elvis?

Tom Hanks’ prosthetics for his turn as Colonel Tom Parker look impressive – but his performance seems…strange

Elvis hits the big screen on 24th June, 2022.

The synopsis:

From Oscar-nominated visionary filmmaker Baz Luhrmann comes Warner Bros. Pictures’ drama “Elvis,” starring Austin Butler and Oscar winner Tom Hanks.

The film explores the life and music of Elvis Presley (Butler), seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Hanks). The story delves into the complex dynamic between Presley and Parker spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is one of the most significant and influential people in Elvis’s life, Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge).
