Notebook Reviews: THE THING
John Carpenter – 1982
Director John Carpenter delivers a brilliant sci-fi/horror with this update of Christian Nyby and Howard Hawks‘ The Thing From Another World. The Thing is loaded with great performances and brilliant atmosphere. Kurt Russell does what he does best, with what must be the finest beard in cinema history.
The special effects are stunning and the artic landscapes stark. Carpenter’s film also features a wonderfully chilly score from the great Ennio Morricone.
Over the years The Thing has been copied, but never bettered.
