The OBI-WAN KENOBI Movie Is Our Only STAR WARS Hope

Of all the Star Wars spin-off/prequel movie ideas that Disney and Lucasfilm could use, the only one that makes real sense is an Ob-Wan Kenobi movie. We’ve seen the character old with Alec Guinness in 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope and we’ve seen him young with Ewan McGregor in George Lucas’ prequel trilogy – but the missing time frame could easily be filled with a middle-aged McGregor – and now we might just be getting that.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot and The Hours) is in negotiations to direct a Kenobi movie:

Sources say talks are at the earliest of stages and that the project has no script. If a deal makes, Daldry would oversee the development and writing with Lucasfilm brass. It’s not known at this stage if Ewan McGregor will reprise his role.

Ewan McGregor needs to be involved in this (he’s open to the idea), otherwise it fails on a creative level.

Movies In Focus will keep you posted on this – it’s truly exciting!
