Anthony Minghella – 1999

The Talented Mr. Ripley is a highly entertaining and wonderfully presented thriller from director Anthony Minghella.

The cast is first-rate (Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law, Cate Blanchett and the always reliable Philip Seymour Hoffman) and they all deliver strong performances.

Based on the Patricia Highsmith novel, The Talented Mr. Ripley is a clever, taught and very suspenseful production which is never dull. The slow start can be forgiven because once Minghella’s film gets going, it never lets up.

With echoes of The Day Of The Jackal, The Talented Mr. Ripley is highly recommended for thriller fans.
