Notebook Reviews: THE SPANISH PRISONER

3 out of 5 stars

David Mamet – 1997

Written and directed by wordsmith extraordinaire David Mamet, The Spanish Prisoner is a clever and enjoyable thriller. The film’s climax is a tad contrived but there’s much to enjoy here.

Campbell Scott is solid in the lead role and there’s an interesting supporting turn from Steve Martin (in a rare straight role). It may not have made a lot at the box office, but there’s much to recommend in this twisty modern-day film noir.
