Notebook Reviews: THE PHILADELPHIA STORY

4.5 out of 5 stars

George Cukor – 1940

The Philadelphia Story is fantastic! Cary Grant is on fire here – in one of his best and most charismatic screen roles.  Katharine Hepburn and James Stewart aren’t far behind him in this excellent screwball comedy. Films are rarely this entertaining, or this funny. The script is first rate and the cast rolls-along oozing charm – other, lesser actors would have been unlikeable in the lead roles.

The Philadelphia Story is perfectly paced, with no fat whatsoever. This classic is perfect to watch at anytime.
