Notebook Reviews: THE MALTESE FALCON

5 out of 5 stars

John Hutson  – 1941

The Maltese Falcon is a true classic and one of the great film noirs. John Huston wrote and directed this adaptation of Dashiell Hammett’s novel and it’s a film which set the template for all other detective tales. Humphrey Bogart is great as the sarcastic Private Detective, Sam Spade and Peter Lorre is also excellent.

The Maltese Falcon has much to recommend – great performances, a dazzling script and one-liners which put most films to shame. It’s a damn good yarn – go watch it.
