Notebook Reviews: DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE
John McTiernan – 1995
Die Hard With A Vengeance is an enjoyable entry into the Die Hard franchise. John McTiernan‘s film sees Bruce Willis‘ John McClane taking on another member of the Gruber family – this time in the form of Jeremy Irons‘ Simon Gruber.
Willis does his thing, but he’s not quite as quippy this time around. Samuel L. Jackson is good but the buddy system detracts from the one-man show template of the first two films. McTiernan’s documentary style also differs from the slickness of the previous films and the ending disappoints – you can tell it was tacked on.
Having said all that, Die Hard With A Vengeance is still good fun. Yippie-kay-yay.
