Notebook Reviews: THE ACCIDENTAL TOURIST

3.5 out of 5 stars

Lawrence Kasdan  – 1988.

Director Lawrence Kasdan has crafted an enjoyable and quirky romantic comedy-drama in the shape of The Accidental Tourist.

Kasdan’s film features an strong cast – William Hurt, Kathleen Turner, Geena Davis and Bill Pullman and they all deliver good performances. Hurt is excellent as travel book writer, Pullman offers fine support and Geena Davis scored a Supporting Actress Academy Award for her turn.

The Accidental Tourist is well directed by Kasdan, who has a good flair for this type of film. It’s a well paced piece which is strongly constructed with good characterisation. It also features yet another impressive score from the great John Williams

It won’t set the world on fire, but The Accidental Tourist is a strong, handsome and entertaining film. You could do a lot worse.
