Notebook Reviews: STARSHIP TROOPERS

Paul Verhoeven – 1997.

Starship Troopers once again sees Dutch director Paul Verhoeven return to the world of futuristic satire.

This big budget sci-fi action pic delivers the spectacle, but it doesn’t quite pack the punch of RoboCop or embrace the gono craziness of Total Recall.

There’s enjoyment to be had through, and old pros like Clancy Brown and Michael Ironside chew the scenery (some of the younger cast aren’t so good). Starship Troopers also features a suitably rousing score from the mighty Basil Poledouris.
