Notebook Reviews: SNAKE EYES
Brian De Palma – 1998
Snake Eyes is an entertaining thriller from genre master Brian De Palma. This is a slick and stylish conspiracy thriller with an impressive cast led by Nicolas Cage and Gary Sinise.
The film is a bit contrived and it makes little sense, but De Palma has fun with the whole endeavour and he uses some of his favourite technical tricks. Cage also seems to be enjoying himself and he takes his performance to the very limit of over-acting. He almost goes there but doesn’t.
Snake Eyes is no classic, but it’s entertaining nonetheless.
