Notebook Reviews: FACE/OFF
John Woo – 1997
Face/Off is a slick and thrilling sci-fi(sh) action film from the great John Woo. The film features wonderfully enthusiastic performances from the brilliant pairing of John Travolta and Nicolas Cage (although his haircut leaves a lot to be desired). The shootouts have the typical John Woo flourishes – twin handguns, slow motion and doves.
It’s totally far-fetched, but it’s a hell of a ride if you suspend disbelief. Face/Off is Woo’s best Hollywood film and a great yarn for fans of Travolta and Cage.
