Notebook Reviews: BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB
Wim Wenders – 1999
Wim Wenders’ Buena Vista Social Club is a captivating documentary about the Cuban music scene. Interviews with the musicians and performances are intercut to deliver a throughly engaging film. It would have been nice to know a bit more about the artists’s history but Wenders’ documentary captures a good feel for Cuba.
The highlight is seeing the awe that the musicians have when they arrive in New York for their performance at Carnegie Hall. It’s worth watching for that alone.
