New Trailer For David Lowery’s Long-Awaited Arthurian Fantasy THE GREEN KNIGHT

The Green Knight starring Dev Patel, Alicia Vikander, Barry Keoghan and Joel Edgerton was supposed to hit cinemas in the summer of 2020. Unfortunately COVID-19 meant that release date never happened, but now a year on it looks like David Lowery’s Arthurian fantasy is finally going to hit the big screen on 30 July 2021.

It looks like the long wait might be worth it.

Here’s the synopsis from Wikipedia:

A fantasy adventure based on the Arthurian legend, The Green Knight tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic green-skinned stranger.

Director David Lowery is carving out one hell of a career for himself.  Ain’t Them Bodies Saints (2013), Pete’s Dragon (2016), A Ghost Story (2017) and The Old Man and The Gun (2018) is a great 5-year run and this looks set to continue with his off-beat take on the Arthurian legend of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight in The Green Knight

Movies In Focus first came across the tale in the 1984 film, Sword of the Valiant: The Legend of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight starring Sean Connery, Miles O’Keeffe and Peter Cushing – a film which was on constant video rotation when I was a kid. I also studied the tale as part of my English degree in the early 00s.
