Kurt Russell Saddles Up For BONE TOMAHAWK
Kurt Russell has been keeping a relatively low profile in recent years (starring in just one film since 2007’s Grindhouse effort Death Proof). However, the John Carpenter favourite has now signed on to the western/horror, Bone Tomahawk – and it sounds pretty exciting. Peter Sarsgaard, Richard Jenkins and Jennifer Carpenter will also star in the film which will be written and directed by S. Craig Zahler.
According to Variety:
“The brutally violent, character-driven “Bone Tomahawk” follows a sheriff (Russell), a gunslinger, a befuddled oldster (Jenkins) and a cowboy (Sarsgaard) as they attempt to rescue a group of captives (including Carpenter) from a band of cannibalistic troglodytes.”
Bone Tomahawk will be produced by Caliber Media, and the US distribution rights are currently up for grabs, although the great concept and good cast should mean that they won’t be available for long.
Russell really knocked it out of the western park with Tombstone in 1993, and I’m quite excited that he’s getting back in the saddle for this. He’ll next be seen in the heist comedy, The Black Marks with Matt Dillon and Terrance Stamp, that film was shot earlier this year and it should be released sometime in 2013 – check out a summary of the film below:
“Crunch Calhoun (Russell), a third rate motorcycle daredevil and semi-reformed art thief, agrees to get back into the con game and pull off just one more lucrative art theft with his untrustworthy brother Nicky (Dillon). Crunch reassembles the old team and comes up with a plan to steal a priceless historical book, but the successful heist leads to another, far riskier, plan devised by Nicky. What the brothers don’t realize is they each have their own agenda and their plan goes awry in this con movie about brotherhood, honor and revenge.”
