Notebook Reviews: AIR FORCE ONE
Wolfgang Petersen – 1997.
German director Wolfgang Petersen‘s Air Force One is an entertaining action film with a good turn from the always reliable Harrison Ford. Ford plays the US President tackling terrorists on the titular aircraft, whilst Gary Oldman gives his Russian accent a workout as the leader of the bad guys. This is a well-staged action flick with some good moments (‘Get off my plane!”).
It’s totally preposterous and ridiculously far-fetched but it’s all well produced. On the down-side, some of Air Force One‘s computer effects are a little ropey, and the plot is very similar to the Kurt Russell starrer Executive Decision – which was released the previous year.
It’s no Die Hard, but Air Force one delivers the requisite thrills for this type of thriller.
