Great Scotty: Simon Pegg To Write STAR TREK 3

Will fans be happy that Simon Pegg is writing Star Trek 3? You know they will. Pegg (who also plays Scotty in the franchise) has been hired to join Doug Jung in bashing out a screenplay for the Justin Lin directed sequel.

The sci-fi film is now moving at warp speed in an attempt to meet Paramount Pictures’ projected 2016 release date.
Star Trek 3 hasn’t had a lot of luck in its production. J.J. Abrams jumped ship to direct Star Wars: The Force Awakens and then writer/producer Bob Orci was dumped from the production over creative differences.

Pegg has previously penned Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End – films of decreasing quality. I’m no Trekkie but these new Star Trek movies have been solid if unspectacular – maybe third time will be a charm.
