Look, Movies In Focus enjoyed David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. It wasn’t perfect, but I had a good time with it (enough to watch it twice).
James Gunn’s follow-up/reboot The Suicide Squad has been getting rave views and fans have started clamouring to #ReleaseTheAyerCut. The success of the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut Justice League campaign has set a dangerous precedent – no matter how the final movie turned out.
Now Ayer has taken to social media to talk about how his version of the film never made it to the screen and why he’s no longer going to talk about it. It sounds like Ayer is frustrated by having Suicide Squad brought-up – and that after five years – he wants to move on.
Rightly so. David Ayer is a filmmaker who has written and directed some great movies and he doesn’t just want to be known for a comic book movie which was taken away from him in the editing room. Maybe fans should expect his wishes.
