Alexander Payne Signs Bruce Dern For NEBRASKA

It’s sad that Alexander Payne didn’t manage to lure Gene Hackman out of retirement for Nebraska-however, solace can be taken in the knowledge that he has snagged Bruce Dern for lead role.

Will Forte will join Dern in the $13 million comedy, which Payne has taken the ballsy move to shoot in black and white. Hey, his last movie The Descendants grossed $171 million at the global box office, picked up five Oscar nods and won Best Adapted Screenplay-he can cash one in.

According to Deadline:

“Dern would play a crotchety dad, an alcoholic on the downside of his life, who gets a sweepstakes letter in the mail and thinks he’s struck it rich. He gets in a car to head down to claim his fortune, accompanied by his underachieving son, who’d be played by Forte.”

Expect this one to score more awards nominations, and it might just win Dern a belated academy award.
