Water, Water Everywhere: Renny Harlin Directs The Action On The Set Of 1999’s Killer Shark Actioner DEEP BLUE SEA

Nobody has an appreciation of Renny Harlin’s Deep Blue Sea like Movies In Focus. Renny Harlin‘s 1999 shark attack actioner is a stone cold cult classic. Harlin is a director who knows how to play-up the film’s far-fetched moments and this killer shark film wears its B-movie tropes with pride.

Deep Blue Sea might have quite a bit of (dated) CGI, but it’s not excessive. The mighty Thomas Jane makes for a tremendous lead and while the plot may be silly, it’s damn good fun. The rest of the cast is also loaded (and very eclectic): Saffron Burrows, Samuel L. Jackson, Stellan Skarsgård, Michael Rapaport and LL Cool.

This image shows Renny Harlin setting-up a shot with the crew on the film’s water-logged set.

Back in 1999 Deep Blue Sea scored $75 million in the US and $164 globally (from a $60 million budget) – not a bad number for an original property.
