Trailer & Poster: Stallone Takes A Back Seat & Lets Statham Drive The EXPEND4BLES

You won’t find a bigger fan of The Expendables franchise than Movies In Focus. I thought the first film was solid enough, but I think the franchise reached its potential with the second and third instalments.

A lot of that had to do with the star power. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jean Claude Van Damme, Harrison Ford, Antonio Banderas and Mel Gibson joined the established crew of Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, and Dolph Lundgren. Those are some seriously heavy hitters.

However, I’m incredibly underwhelmed with the talent involved in Expend4ables. This time around Stallone is taking a back seat and letting Statham do the driving. Meanwhile, the rest of the cast is filled out with Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Jacob Scipio, Levy Tran, Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson,  Megan Fox and Andy Garcia. Hardly the action A-list icons of the previous franchise entries.

I don’t know, it all feels a little…cheaper.

I hope I’m ultimately wrong about this Scott Waugh directed – Kurt Wimmer & Tad Daggerhart and Max Adams scripted sequel – but I’m not feeling any excitement from this trailer for Expend4ables. Maybe I’ll change my mind when Expend4ables hits the big screen on 22 September 2023.

Prove me wrong!

The synopsis:

A new generation of stars join the world’s top action stars for an adrenaline-fueled adventure in Expend4bles. Reuniting as the team of elite mercenaries, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, and Sylvester Stallone are joined for the first time by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Megan Fox, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Jacob Scipio, Levy Tran, and Andy Garcia. Armed with every weapon they can get their hands on and the skills to use them, The Expendables are the world’s last line of defence and the team that gets called when all other options are off the table. But new team members with new styles and tactics are going to give “new blood” a whole new meaning.
